I am Olga Belova, a hyperrealist artist working exclusively on untreated silk.
My decision to work on silk was deliberate. I was drawn to the tension within this material — its softness paired with absolute irreversibility. Unlike canvas, silk does not allow correction. The moment silk colors touch the fibers, they settle immediately into the fabric, fixing each gesture in place. This condition demands discipline, patience, and complete control.
Over time, this material reshaped the way I think about painting. Hyperrealism in my work is not about imitation but about presence. Every element is constructed deliberately, every transition of light measured and intentional.
The animals I depict function less as subjects and more as presences. I am interested in the moment before movement — in contained power, in the quiet tension between stillness and potential motion.
Silk itself plays an essential role in this language. It carries light differently from traditional painting surfaces, allowing the image to develop depth and an inner luminosity rather than a reflective surface.
Each work is created once and never repeated. I do not produce prints or reproductions.
My works are held in private collections internationally.
SONOSETA derives from the Italian phrase “Sono Seta” — “I am silk.”
I chose this name at the beginning of my artistic path, when I was working with silk as a textile. As my practice evolved into hyperrealistic painting, the name remained.
It continues to reflect my relationship with the fabric — not as surface, but as identity.
